It's a holiday weekend back home

If I was back in the states right now, it would be a 4-day weekend. Last July 4th, I visited my cousins in Florida and had a great time. This year I'm in Iraq and all of the holiday events are cancelled because of expected attacks. But I am really looking forward to two weeks in Fla. at the end of this month.

I should have been blogging since I got here in February...I meant to. Instead, all the writing I've done is for the Army. Not to mention, a hundreds of emails and hours and hours of yahoo and Facebook chatting.

Work has gone to hell in the last month or so. A new NCOIC ( I call him Gumby) joined my section, and he's a complete tool. He doesn't want to admit that he's clueless, and he's never been in charge of soldiers before. At first I tried to kill his attitude with kindness and cooperation but when that didn't work I changed my tactic to ignoring him and sitting at my desk reading all day. The interesting thing is that he doesn't have the backbone to say anything. I've even stopped answering the phone when it rings, even though it sits on my desk. I let him or the other (the little boy) to0l that I work with jump up to answer it without glancing up from my book. That's amusing.

Today I'm just killing time. I'm going to Green Beans (similar to Starbucks), to try once again to log onto their wifi and see if I can download a few books onto my nook. Then I'll call my Dad, as I do every Sunday. My stepmother says he sits by the phone on Sunday mornings waiting for me to call, which makes me a little teary-eyed. I don't really bother calling my mother anymore because she's always distracted by my niece and nephew. We keep in touch by email.

I've never managed to keep a blog updated before, but maybe I will this time.

Superbowl Sunday

Well I've managed to watch Julie and Julia while getting drunk on vodka and lemonade.
